Concept design:

  • Definition of customer requirements and product functional requirements. Capture the design parameters which flow from these requirements. Analysis of the technologies and materials would be required to meet the targets. Focus on the production processes would be required to integrate these technologies

  • HOQ, DFMA, DFSS, Axiomatic Design, TRIZ, FMEA, risk management, LCC, patents, define validation and verification procedures

Technology integration:
  • Cross-discipline (electronics, chemical, fluid dynamics, materials, structural, thermodynamics, kinematics, embedded software for stability & control, etc)

  • Focus on non-linearities, cross-physics interactions, external effects, unknown effects, chaotic effects, system-of-systems, man-machine interface

  • The technology must be mature and robust enough for real-world mass production industry applications

  • It is a must to be able to demonstrate the value proposition of any new technology, product or service

  • Operational reality will always be different. So a large degree of flexibility must be designed into the concept from the start
